The amendments of the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Act took effect on 15 March 2022, which made additional requirements mandatory for the virtual asset service providers. Therefore, virtual asset service providers that have an activity license, had to make an application for the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit to assess the compliance with the new requirements.
As of 14 March 2023, there are 112 active licenses for providing virtual asset services in Estonia.
