„Taking into account the risks related to the virtual asset service providers, the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit considers issuing new licenses very thoroughly. In the current case, the applicant had clear business plan and measures for risk management, which enabled the Unit to issue a positive response. The company is strongly related to Estonia and oriented to creating innovation," said Matis Mäeker, the director of the Financial Intelligence Unit.
The issued license is the first new authorization for virtual asset service providers since Matis Mäeker took the office on 14 June 2021.
As of 28 December 2021 there were 371 Estonian licensed active virtual asset service providers.
