Practical guideline for enterprises helps to detect avoiding sanctions

Competent authorities of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland have developed a recommended guideline that helps enterprises to identify and prevent sanction avoidance. The guideline supports to assess risks, gain a better understanding of customers, notice warning signs in business activity, and to ensure proper due diligence measures.

The guideline provides recommendations primarily for enterprises operating in the trade sector, however other enterprises can also find recommendations there.

As of June 23, 2023, the European Union has adopted 11 sanction packages, including restrictive measures against 1571 individuals and 244 entities. Sectoral restrictions have also been imposed to influence Russia to end the war in Ukraine. Compliance with these measures is mandatory for all individuals and legal entities.

The Financial Intelligence Unit is the competent national authority in Estonia for international financial sanctions.
